Greenup Industries' Hurricane Risk Reduction Project in Plaquemines Parish Ahead of Federal Completion Deadline

In 2026,Greenup Industries and the Greenup-Cajun JV are in the final stages of a major hurricane risk reduction project in Plaquemines Parish, currently trending ahead of the federal schedule.

Plaquemines Parish Levee (NOV-05a) Updates 

  • Target Completion: The $102.5 million 1st Lift Levee and Drainage Canal Relocation project (LaReussite to Myrtle Grove) has an official USACE deadline of November 30, 2026.

  • Project Acceleration: As of early 2026, the project is reported to be ahead of schedule.

  • Expanded Scope: In late 2025, the JV received a $6.3 million change order for additional storm protection features, cited by USACE as a result of "excellent performance" on the initial contract.

  • Core 2026 Activities: Final work involves completing T-walls, levee ramp crossings, geotextile installation, and turf establishment to stabilize the new embankment against erosion. 

Regional Support & Related Work

  • Clay Supply Chain: Greenup Industries continues to play a vital role in regional levee stability by processing and stockpiling roughly 1.5 million cubic yards of clay from the Bonnet Carre Spillway. This material is essential for building high-elevation levees (up to 14 feet) across the West Bank and Vicinity (WBV) and West Shore Lake Pontchartrain systems.

  • Braithwaite Modification: The JV is also managing a $20.3 million contract modification for ongoing drainage and excavation work in the Braithwaite area of Plaquemines, with a long-term completion window extending beyond 2026.

  • Industry Presence: Greenup is scheduled to participate in the USACE New Orleans Industry Day on May 14, 2026, where they will likely engage on future phases of the Comite River Diversion and Mississippi River Levee construction.
